House System
The House system aims to give students an identity and pride in a supportive, secure environment. The Houses provide positive competition and a closer rapport between students and teachers. The Houses compete in several sporting, academic and cultural activities for points.
The benefits of the Whole School House System include the following: The system is inclusive of all learners and includes sporting, academic and artistic endeavours. The Houses promotes leadership, positive self-esteem, self-identity, belonging, integrity and pride amongst all students.
Aims and Objectives:
- To strengthen each learner's interpersonal relationship skills, Learner profile, attitudes and attributes.
- The system enables students to develop their leadership skills proactively.
- To provide a safe and guided structure for children to learn to manage their emotions in a range of situations, such as sporting, academic and creative arts competitions.
- To encourage teamwork and sportsmanship and to foster respect for each other in the process.
ASOY has four Houses:
Red Lions, Green Vipers, Yellow Jackal, and Blue Mambas.
All students and Staff are divided up into four Houses. Siblings are kept together, although cousins may be placed in different Houses.
In MS and HS, each Thursday Advisory class is dedicated to student-led House competitions.
In Elementary school, a House point system has been placed in each classroom. Students can gain House points for demonstrating traits of the Learner Profile, positive behaviour or/and academic achievements. House points are collected bi-weekly and announced in the ES assembly.
