Vice Principal's Welcome

Kissi

Welcome to ASOY's Middle and High School, collectively known as Upper School (US).

The ASOY family welcomes all of our new students, parents, and teachers. I use the word family because that is what the ASOY community is: a family of like-minded individuals who want the best for our students. As part of this, ASOY offers the IB Middle Years (grade 6-10) and the Diploma (grade 11-12) programmes in addition to the Primary Years programme offered in the Elementary. I am proud to say that ASOY is one of a small number of IB continuum schools (running all three IB programmes) in Africa.

The ASOY student body is a diverse and wonderful group who work independently, generate questions to explore topics of interest to themselves, and present their learning in a range of ways. Key skills in speaking and writing are integrated across the curriculum and learning is centered on producing a well-rounded individual, prepared for the world that awaits her or him after graduation. The IB Diploma, an academically rigorous course of studies, presents our students with the advantage of receiving advanced university credit in select first-year courses, as well as a strong foundation for success in college and university. Our graduates in past years have gone on to higher studies in Canada, the US, and Europe at a range of post-secondary institutions.

All ASOY faculty are certified teachers with an average 15+ years of experience in a range of countries. We provide training to all of our faculty to enable them to help students learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This is deepened through our Service as Action in the MYP and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) in the DP that see students engaged in projects and actions for ASOY and for partner entities, such as orphanages and local schools.

Speaking of actions, as a school we believe in communicating with parents. Part of this is through our Parent-Teacher Organization which every family belongs to, and part of it is through Managebac, our learning portal for families and students. This allows parents to check their child's progress, contact teachers as needed, and to have meaningful discussions with their child about learning, which after all, is ASOY's mission: Empower, Engage, Excel.

We look forward to welcoming you and your child or children to ASOY as they start their MYP or DP journey!
