“Even if it’s a little thing, do something for those who have need of help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it”
~Albert Schweitzer

Service Learning at ASOY:
At ASOY, we integrate meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, to teach civic responsibility and compassion, and to strengthen our broader communities.  Our Service Learning activities provide opportunities for students to become active, contributing members through the service they perform and have a legacy of being highly impactful and meaningful.

The school’s Community, Action, and Service (CAS) Coordinator is responsible for organizing the on and off-campus Service Learning activities.

Service Learning Projects
Elementary school students will be involved in Service Learning projects identified by their classroom teacher and integrated into the curriculum where appropriate during the school year.

Middle and High school students will be involved in a service learning project with their grade level peers.  We aim to develop a variety of projects, often working with local schools and orphanages to organize games and sports events, running a successful micro-finance organization,  or teaching local students about health issues relevant to the region.  As students approach graduation, the responsibilities for leading and organizing our service work increases with our IB Diploma Program students taking on a significant role in identifying local community needs and developing the projects to address them.
