As a school that serves a culturally diverse population, we expect that the teaching, learning, and assessment process takes into account the linguistic needs of our students. Students who do not speak English proficiently will receive support from our English Language Learners teacher in both social and academic language.

At ASOY we advocate the learning of language through inquiry, allowing students to make connections with context, to explore and investigate the world around them. The learning of any language is developmental by nature, building constructively on what each individual student knows to help move them forward. Our program has a wide variety of approaches, activities, and techniques which help to create a comprehensive and dynamic learning experience for our students.

We highly value students’ prior knowledge in their mother tongue and consistently work towards identifying their knowledge in the mother tongue and providing language skills that will facilitate transferring this knowledge to learning in our school curriculum. We highly value students’ prior knowledge in their mother tongue and consistently work towards identifying their knowledge in the mother tongue and providing language skills that will facilitate transferring this knowledge to learning in our school curriculum.
